Leah Stern, DVM, DACVS-SA, Surgery

Dr. Leah Stern is a board-certified veterinary surgeon with 10+ years of veterinary surgery experience. After graduating from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton, Massachusetts, Dr. Stern completed her internship at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland, Oregon. She moved back to the east coast for her surgery internship at Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, CT. She stayed on at VREC in Norwalk, CT to complete a residency in small animal surgery. Dr. Stern practiced in Connecticut and New York for over a decade before moving to Maine and joining our team.

Dr. Stern‘s main surgical interests include soft tissue surgery such as cancer/tumor removal, surgery in critically ill pets/septic peritonitis, urinary surgery, and airway surgery. Dr. Stern is also passionate about keeping patients comfortable and relaxed during their surgeries, their time in the hospital, and recovery at home.

Dr. Stern moved to Maine to live “the way life should be.” She has two tabby cats and loves gardening (flowers), dabbling in homesteading (canning, pickling, fermenting, sourdough baking, growing fruits and veggies), and freshwater fishing.
